Annie is a member of the ‘Association of Independent Yoga Practitioners’ (AIYP).
Annie’s yoga is inspired by Vanda Scaravelli, who died a few years ago. Her book "Awakening the Spine" is still in print, and worth reading. Vanda studied with the spiritual teacher Krishnamurti, and with yoga teachers Desikachar and B K S Iyengar. It was Vanda who went on to teach Annie’s teachers Mary Stewart and Chloe Freemantle.
Teaching & Classes
We begin our classes with deep relaxation.
Our yoga adheres completely to the principles of alignment and is biomechanically sound. It takes us towards health and not away from it - people are unfortunately too good at hurting themselves!
We learn to move the spine: in extension, flexion, rotation and in side bending; all in an integrated way.
We also learn to ground, through our bones, in order to lose tension in muscles. We learn to balance and still lose tension.
We start to free up the respiratory system, i.e. once we are grounded and relaxed we can breathe better.
So in consequence we begin to really notice how we feel in our bodies. We become more at ease with ourselves and we can start to change physically and emotionally in our approach to the world around us.
If all of this sounds very serious, yes, the practice of yoga and its benefits are proven to be seriously effective but in addition our classes are always fun and with room for dialogue and exploration.
Annie currently teaches many classes in the Princes Risborough area (including Springs Fitness Centre) – details of which can be found below.
She has recently moved to Beaconsfield, and has set up a yoga mixed ability class at The United Reformed Church, Ayelsbury End, in Beaconsfield. She is looking to do more classes in this area.
Annie’s yoga classes are kept to an average of 12 students, as she likes a hands-on approach to yoga. These classes are attended by both men and women, of all ages, and mixed ability. She also teaches pregnant women, either in these classes or separately, depending on their needs.
Annie also teaches privately, and on a one-to-one basis. She has also taught three yoga retreats in Cornwall, and takes yoga workshops. She experience teaching people with specific problems such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, spinal problems, and knee and hip problems, Parkinson’s disease, amputees, and two young girls with Down’s Syndrome. Annie has also taught A-level students to help alleviate their stress.
Two of Annie’s students have recently gone on to become teachers, and she teaches many qualified teachers in her classes.
